My goal is to be a passionate piano accompanist while allowing the soloist to shine. An excellent collaborative accompanist possesses strong sight-reading skills, aural skills, a high level of piano technique, and excellent rhythmic skills. A skilled piano accompanist highlights every nuance the soloist displays in their performance. This detailed and expressive accompanying can only be accomplished by listening and following the soloist.
The soloist and accompanist form the ultimate musical partnership. You also need to possess a trained ear, i.e. being able to tell whether the soloist is sharp or flat. Additionally, a collaborative pianist needs to account for breathing, especially when you are collaborating with wind and vocal soloists.
