Ms. Love is a NATIONALLY CERTIFIED TEACHER OF MUSIC IN PIANO through Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Ms. Love received an MM degree in piano pedagogy and performance from George Mason University and studied with Dr. Anna Balakerskaia from the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Dr. Balakerskaia focused on the Russian piano method and was instrumental in developing Ms. Love's piano technique-particularly supple relaxed wrists and firm fingertips. Ms. Love also studied with Dr. Andrey Kasparov from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. Dr. Kasparov teaches at Old Dominion University. Dr. Kasparov was also instrumental in developing Ms. Love's piano technique and is a master piano technician. Dr. Kasparov has the technical ability to prepare the entire Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 in one day.
Dr. Julie Hahn, a graduate of Peabody Institute- John Hopkins University, also had a profound effect on Ms. Love's piano technique. Dr. Hahn focused on Ms. Love's sound, articulation, AND technique. Dr. Hahn taught Ms. Love how to practice difficult technical passages and modify her sound with the una corda pedal. Additionally, Ms. Love had the opportunity to spend three years training in the Lister-Sink method. Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink, Professor of Piano at Salem College had a profound effect in further developing Ms. Love's piano technique. Dr. Lister-Sink taught Ms. Love how to engage her entire body when playing piano, the various muscle groups involved when playing piano and how to practice difficult technical/rhythmic passages. The piano training at George Mason University (GMU) was quite intense! Ms. Love was required to take two separate piano accompaniment courses for vocalists and instrumentalists as well as two semesters of chamber music. In the vocal accompaniment course, Ms. Love was required to transpose Italian art songs into multiple keys on sight while accompanying a GMU voice professor.
Ms. Love is also adept in the Russian piano method and skilled in injury preventive technique. She received a second MM degree in injury preventive technique at Salem College where she studied with the internationally renowned Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink who taught at Eastman School of Music. Ms. Love learned about the muscle groups involved in playing piano and now incorporates biomechanically efficient muscle use in her piano teaching. This sets her apart from other piano teachers and pianists in the area who do not have injury preventive training or knowledge of the Russian piano method. Learning to use your entire body when playing piano is crucial for effective piano technique. Again, when I teach, I incorporate all of the above in my piano teaching. It is not coming from a template-Its coming from my 22 years of piano teaching, my education and training and diligent study with teachers who were experts in acquiring expert piano technique.
Your piano lessons will focus on repertoire, technique, theory, sight-reading, transposition and aural training. I tailor my lessons to the student's individual learning style, i.e. kinesthetic, auditory and visual. Learn the secrets to some of the world's greatest pianists like Vladimir Horowitz and Yuja Wang. This is not based upon a template. My technical regimen to achieving superb technique is based upon 22 years of teaching piano and 35 years of performance experience. I use a wealth of digital technique books that are included in your one-hour lesson fee and geared towards the student's individual learning style and level. I am a traveling piano lessons teacher, so rates will be higher than someone teaching out of their home. A traveling piano teacher must account for vehicle maintenance, and travel time. This is standard practice in the music industry.
Ms. Love has an in-depth technical regimen for achieving technical prowess at the piano. The piano lessons will include a wealth of etude books, finger exercises, a scale manual and virtuosic etudes valued at over $100. These books will be sent digitally prior to your first lesson and they are free of charge. The lesson fee includes my expertise in teaching piano, your lesson time and my travel time. You will also be required to prepay for your piano lessons before any digital technique books are sent. I offer lesson packages which are listed above. You will also be required to sign a contract. Again, my requirement are standard practices in the music industry.
