I was the former Departmental Accompanist for applied students at a local HBCU. I can accompany vocalists, woodwind, brass and string instruments and possess a high level of musicianship, technique and expertise that has been developed over a period of forty years.
My experience as a former flautist for twenty-five years adds additional expertise to my piano accompaniment. I possess a trained ear, rhythmic continuity and the expertise to modify my sound to blend with the soloist. When appropriate, I use the una corda pedal to add a variety of tonal colors to my sound. This requires a specific pedal technique and does not involve simply pushing the soft pedal down to the floor.
The clarinet soloist in the video graduated from Manhattan School of Music in New York and also worked with Yehuda Gilad.
My piano technique incorporates the Russian Piano Method and the Lister-Sink method. This is reflected in my performance of the Erlkonig by Franz Schubert. A link to a video of my collaborative performance can be provided upon request or I can send a recording to you via email. Learn the secrets to playing the Erlkonig!
